At Mukka Proteins Limited, sustainability is central to our business philosophy. We believe long-term growth is possible only by maintaining a strong balance between Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) responsibilities. We are committed to responsible sourcing, responsible production, and full traceability in our supply chain. All raw materials are sourced from legal, reported, and regulated fishing activities, helping to prevent Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing while protecting marine ecosystems. Our facility is approved under the MarinTrust Improver Programme (IP), reflecting our commitment to continuous improvement in responsible marine ingredient production. Through collaboration with fishermen, industry partners, scientists, and regulatory authorities, we support initiatives that promote sustainable fisheries management, marine biodiversity protection, and the long-term availability of marine resources.
Responsible Production
Our state-of-the-art, steam-dried production facilities are equipped with modern mechanized technology, and every stage of production is closely monitored by our quality management team. Our fish meal production adheres to the lowest histamine values set by international standards, ensuring both product safety and responsible marine resource utilization.
Black Soldier Fly (BSF) Technology — Waste to Protein
One of our most transformative sustainability commitments is our pioneering work in Black Soldier Fly insect protein through our subsidiary, Ento Proteins Private Limited. This highly efficient, closed-loop biological system addresses significant environmental challenges by diverting organic waste from landfills and converting it into high-value insect meal and oil.
Our BSF facility in Mangaluru is currently the largest unit at any municipal solid waste management site in India. This successful model was recently praised by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, during his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address, highlighting the effectiveness and innovation of the initiative.
Urban Waste Management — Bengaluru
Mukka Proteins Limited has been officially empanelled as an Authorised Waste Processor by Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML). Under this empanelment, the company manages the collection, transportation, processing, and scientific disposal — in accordance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 — of 200–300 metric tonnes per day of wet waste, with a planned expansion to 1,000 tonnes per day.
We have also secured a project for the scientific treatment of legacy leachate from BSWML — a first-of-its-kind initiative at this scale in India.
ESG Performance
Our ESG initiatives are robust — diverting over 1,00,000 tonnes of wet waste from landfills, achieving zero landfill and zero leachate, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Carbon credit approvals for 1,200 TPD underscore our leadership in circular economy practices, transforming waste into protein, feed, and food.
Aligned with Global Goals
Our insect protein initiative is deeply aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals — particularly Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and Goal 14 (Life Below Water). By advancing insect protein as an alternative feed ingredient, we are actively reducing the industry’s reliance on marine-based feed ingredients.
